I'm going to try and recap what's been going on in our little world for the past 13.5 weeks. Well, we had a pretty eventful day on June 28, 2008. I've already written Savannah's birth story on my myspace page so I'll just copy and paste it here. It was written on Sunday, the day after her birth:
Savannah Kate is here!! She made her debut at 35 weeks 5 days weighing in at 6 lbs 9 oz and 18 inches long. However, I believe her due date must have been miscalculated as we are being told she is showing none of the "traditional preemie symptoms." She's beautiful!! Has a full head of hair and nursing like a champ!
We were at home and my water broke. I was trying to finish entering data for the database submission due on Monday (my MMRC home job) and was trying to get all the data entered before leaving for the hospital. However, the pain got too bad and contractions were coming between 1-3 minutes apart. By the time we made it to the hospital I was 6 cm dialated and 100% effaced. Labor continued to progress at a fairly quick rate. Savannah didn't like the contractions too much. Her heartrate would dip with every one but she was able to recover fairly quickly. Finally the doctor and several nurses came in and said she was starting to have difficulty pulling her heartrate back up. When they checked I was 10 cm so we started pushing. We pushed a good 3-4 times and her heartrate dipped way too low. They had trouble finding it and immediately called for an emergency ceasarian. Within 15 minutes I was whipped to the ER,prepped, and heard Savannah's sweet little cry. The bad part was that since it was so fast and unexpected they weren't able to administer the usual meds given for a c-section and I had to go with just the epidural. I wasn't able to feel the incision but pretty much felt everything else going on inside. And the epidural wore off on the left side about the time they started stitching and stapling so I felt a good bit of that too. They couldn't give me anything until they finished (not really clear on why, didn't care at the time, just wanted something). It took a LOT of medication afterward to get things under control and somehow, none of it ever made me sleep.
They finally brought Savannah to me about 10:30 pm last night and she's pretty much been in our room since then. We will be in the hospital until at least Tuesday, depending on my recover. I'm doing great now and seem to be healing well.
Daddy is estatic and doing great!! He is holding her now while I type and Savannah is ready to eat!!
